Site

The site for the Fred Young Submillimeter Telescope (FYST) is at 5600 m altitude about 200 m ENE of and 50 m below the summit of Cerro Chajnantor. To evaluate environmental and observing conditions, a submillimeter tipper, a weather station, and other instruments were deployed there in 2006 May.

The Base Camp for the FYST is located at the Radiosky Scientific Lodge, Camino a Toconao 145-A, Ayllu de Solor, San Pedro de Atacama.

The FYST summit site is located inside the Atacama Astronomical Park (PAA).

The site for the CCAT Observatory was first proposed in 2006 with a final selection in 2008. From 2006-2014, extensive meteorological measurements have been performed to determine and characterize its submillimeter observing characteristics. Due to the malfunction of the weather station, measurements have not been taken since 2014, but a new station has been installed recently and new data will be posted soon.

The exact location of the site is 5600 meters altitude about 200 meter ENE of and 50 meters below the summit of Cerro Chajnantor. The air temperature, pressure, humidity, and wind is recorded by a weather station every 15 minutes. In addition, at approximate 15 minute intervals, a tipper measures the atmospheric transparency at the nominal submillimeter wavelengths of 350 μm and 200 μm.
